LYNDHURST--Eco Earth Design, one of the region’s leading environmentally responsible landscape design and development firms, announced that company President Robert Schucker has been named among Green Roofs for Healthy Cities’ inaugural group of Green Roof Professionals.
Green Roofs for Health Cities is a not-for-profit organization that works to promote the green roof industry throughout North America. It was founded in 1999 as a result of a research project on the benefits of green roofs and the barriers to industry development.
Schucker’s accreditation as a Green Roof Professional contributes to Eco Earth Design’s position as New Jersey’s leader in the rapidly emerging industry of green roof systems.
An extension of the existing roof, a green roof system involves a high-quality waterproofing and root repellant system, drainage system, filter cloth, lightweight growing medium and plants. Green roofs have the ability to provide a wide range of public benefits, including improved air quality and a reduction in energy usage. Additionally, property owners that implement green roof systems at their buildings are able to realize a return on their investment through a reduction in maintenance expenses.
In order to receive the Green Roof Professional accreditation, Schucker was required to pass four training courses that were developed by multidisciplinary committees of green roof experts drawn from fields such as civil and structural engineering, architecture, horticulture, roofing and waterproofing and landscape architecture. His accreditation is a natural progression for Eco Earth Design as the company continues to grow in the area of sustainable landscape design and development.
