NEW YORK, NY--Lisa Sharkey and Paul Gleicher's passion for sustainable living led them to fully gut and renovate a five-floor Manhattan brownstone. While creating this home for their family, they sourced stylish and sophisticated options for green, eco-friendly living.
Inspired by the work they had accomplished and hungry for more, Sharkey and Gleicher traversed the United States in search of other homes that combine earth-conscious values and efficiency without compromising high style and flawless design. Hoping to inspire others and eager to communicate their message, they created DREAMING GREEN: Eco-Fabulous Homes Designed to Inspire (Clarkson Potter/Publishers; November 18, 2008).
The homes profiled in DREAMING GREEN vary from new construction to remodels and renovations. Innovative and smart green features include:
• Manhattan Brownstone: The hallway walls are covered in organic clays with golden color and mica ships embedded inside, which gives the home a warm adobe glow.
• Ann Arbor Sun Home: The house is specifically angled to capture the sun, with most windows facing south to maximize the available light in the room where the family spends the most time.
• Austin Treehouse: Cedars that had fallen on the densely wooded property are reborn as pillars and beams on the terrace.
