NEWARK--Mayor Cory A. Booker will flip the switch to light the City of Newark's 30-foot Norwegian Spruce Christmas tree, illuminated with 39,600 solar-powered lights, on the steps of City Hall, as the highlight of Newark's 22nd annual Christmas Tree Lighting, on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at 4 p.m.
In an environmentally-friendly and energy-saving measure, the tree's lights for the first time this year will be powered by solar panels. The panels will collect solar energy during the day, storing it by night, and illuminate the tree at all times.
The concert will precede the tree-lighting ceremony, and refreshments will follow the event.
