LIVINGSTON— Jarmel Kizel Architects & Engineers, Inc. recently completed full-service architectural, engineering, MEP-engineering and structural engineering services for The Deron School in Montclair.
Civil engineering services were provided by Jarmel Kizel Witczak Land Planning and Design, LLC a subsidiary of Jarmel Kizel, which specializes in civil engineering and site plan design. The project is currently under construction.
Jarmel was hired to design the three-story, 15,000-sf addition to the original 1912 school, a state-approved private day school that provides programs for special needs children. The expansion was designed to improve facilities and upgrade the school to meet the Department of Education’s facility standards. To achieve these results, Jarmel Kizel ensured that the building would be handicap accessible, have state-of-the-art classrooms and specialty instructional rooms for speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy and occupational training purposes.
Jarmel Kizel managed the entitlement process for the client by preparing necessary drawings to obtain use variances and they also developed a strategy for The Deron School’s presentation to the zoning board.
Deron Schools are state-approved private day programs established to provide educational opportunities for special-need students, ages five to twenty-one, who cannot be served in a regular classroom setting by the special education programs of their local districts. The Deron Schools are uniquely qualified to develop the academic, social and emotional potential of these children.
