BASKING RIDGE--Gary Kull, founding and managing member of Carroll McNulty & Kull LLC (CMK), and Denise Marra Depekary, member of the law firm, recently led a seminar on the New Jersey Paid Family Leave Act for more than 60 small-business owners.
Sponsored by Affinity Federal Credit Union, the seminar focused on what this new legislation means for business owners and the steps they must take to comply with it.
New Jersey is the third state to enact a paid family leave act that grants up to six weeks of paid leave each year to employees for the care of new born or adopted children or sick family members. Employees may collect up to two-thirds of their pay, with a maximum of $524 per week beginning July 1, 2009, when the law takes effect.
Kull and DePekary often assist clients on a broad range of employment issues including wrongful discharge, breach of contract, restrictive covenants, discrimination, sexual harassment and whistleblowers as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination. They also provide counseling to help businesses establish sound employment practices, develop employee handbooks and prepare enforceable employment contracts.
